About The Position

Perform cleanup throughout the mill to maintain a safe work environment and maximize production. Works closely with Lead and operators.

Requirements

• Constant use of hearing and vision
• Peripheral vision to see forklifts and co-workers
• Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc.
• Worker generally works with little supervision.
• Must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task, with the ability to prioritize, organize, and make necessary decisions.
• Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery.
• Always use our 14-step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy.
• Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t overreach, get help as needed to push heavy objects).
• Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection).
• Be aware of and always communicate with your co-workers (ex: loader operator).
• Will be required to read and write during safety training.
• Constant use of hearing and vision
• Frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching
• Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Clean up sawdust/shavings around machinery using shovel, broom, air hose, forklift, rake, wheelbarrow, etc. Requires repetitive use of hands, arms, upper body, back, legs. Worker will bend, twist, squat, push/pull using waist, shoulders, arms, hands, and wrists to manipulate a variety of tools. Crawl under machinery occasionally. Climb ladders occasionally and stand/walk for long periods of time.
• Cross train on other job(s) to help with breaks and cover vacations.
• Operate the motorized sweeper to keep the entire plant area clean.
• Assist in clearing jam ups in conveyor systems. This may involve climbing ladders and operating manlift.
• Learn to do basic maintenance and preventative maintenance checks.
• Basic forklift operation and Bobcat operation.
• Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purpose.
• Steam clean rolling stock.
• Assist co-workers or Maintenance personnel in basic maintenance procedures.
