Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a member of our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Marion, Ohio. Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test
  • Must be able to demonstrate job related knowledge/shills of reading blueprints and use common shop measuring devices such as straight edge rulers, welding gauges and dial gauges.
  • Must be able to successfully complete qualification requirements to perform applicable Non-destructive testing procedures.
  • Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently
  • Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions
  • Have analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • Safety and quality focused
  • Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract

Responsibilities

  • Reviews cleaning and testing procedures prior to performing prescribed work and prior to entering the tank car.
  • Must know and adhere to confined space entry procedures and all other safety rules.
  • Checks calibration equipment to ensure accurate readings of LEL oxygen content meters, pH meters, and Draeger meters.
  • Connects high-pressure air, steam and water hoses and operates cleaning rack equipment and performs manual cleanout of tank interior as required.
  • Removes, cleans, repairs, tests, and applies valves and fittings when required.
  • Applies nitrogen or mineral oil to tank interiors when required.
  • Operates testing equipment to monitor cleaning operation of the system.
  • Ensures that cleaning procedures and equipment conform to company and EPA standards.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.
