About The Position

The Cleaning Associate is responsible for maintaining clean and orderly shelter facilities. Dependability, responsibility, efficiency, and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully are mandatory skills. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning duties to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for residents and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or 1 year of experience in a similar position.
  • Ability to complete job duties that are guest and housing focused and trauma informed.
  • Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with high-risk needs.
  • Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, and other employees.
  • Able to carry equipment and supplies from floor to floor.
  • Position requires ascending or descending stairs using feet and legs.
  • Able to operate and maintain all housekeeping/laundry equipment (i.e., buffing machines, etc.).
  • Must be detail-oriented and maintain high standards of cleanliness in public areas.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural competency, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Motivated, self-starter and proactive team member.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, physical exam, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
  • Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining clean and organized shelter facilities.
  • Dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, cleaning windows, and moving furniture.
  • Routinely cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, and disinfecting all bathrooms, kitchens, and all high-touch surfaces.
  • Emptying trash and garbage containers in all assigned areas.
  • Performing heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors.
  • Organizing custodial closets and spaces.
  • Maintaining the working condition of cleaning equipment.
  • Following established safety precautions and infection control practices when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
  • Assisting with general cleanliness and safety of the facility, including cleaning up spills.
  • Assisting with cleaning client units upon move-out from the shelter.
  • Maintaining detailed and thorough cleaning logs.
  • Performing day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
  • Reporting incidents and maintenance issues as required by supervisor.
  • Remaining flexible and easily adapting to crisis situations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
