About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Cleaning Ambassador works visibly at street level within an assigned zone, performing cleaning tasks while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. The role also involves greeting and assisting pedestrians and visitors, sharing directions or city information, and reporting unwanted behaviors or criminal activity to Safety Ambassadors. The schedule is Thursday through Sunday, 1:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Pay is $21.00 per hour, paid weekly, with access to pay advances before payday.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
Ability to speak, read, and write English to complete basic reports.

Nice To Haves

Cleaning experience is preferred, but not required; training is provided.

Responsibilities

Perform a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting or smile, and provide directions or city information.
Remove litter from streets, sidewalks, and alleys while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can containing supplies and tools.
Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and other surfaces.
Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, including trash can lids and news boxes.
Watch for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report them to Safety Ambassadors using two-way radios.
Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.
