About The Position

At Block by Block, Ambassadors are employed to enhance public spaces by making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities we serve. This role, known as a Cleaning Ambassador, involves a high level of visibility at the street level, performing a wide variety of cleaning tasks within an assigned zone. The position requires maintaining a positive, professional demeanor at all times, actively acknowledging and engaging pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting and smile to provide directions and city information. It is also highlighted as a great opportunity for retirees, veterans, and graduating high school seniors seeking their first job.

Requirements

• Experience preferred, but not required.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided).
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Remove litter such as fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris from streets, sidewalks, and alleys, utilizing a rolling trash can with supplies/tools.
• Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, including trash can lids and news boxes.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, requiring proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
