About The Position

Performs routine manual labor and maintenance activities to support the City of North Miami’s efforts to maintain clean, safe, and attractive public areas. Employees in this classification are responsible for removing litter, debris, illegally dumped materials, and other refuse from public rights-of-way, vacant lots, sidewalks, roadways, alleys, and other areas designated by the Code Compliance Department.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED is preferred.
  • Previous experience performing manual labor, grounds maintenance, sanitation, landscaping, construction, property maintenance, or related work is desirable.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • A valid Florida Driver License may be required depending on assigned duties.
  • Safely operating hand tools and basic equipment.
  • Loading, unloading, lifting, and transporting materials.
  • Performing physically demanding manual labor for extended periods.
  • Following verbal and written instructions.
  • Working effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine cleanup of public rights-of-way, sidewalks, streets, alleys, vacant lots, and other designated areas.
  • Collects and removes litter, trash, illegal dumping, debris, discarded furniture, yard waste, and other materials.
  • Loads and unloads debris, refuse, equipment, and materials from City vehicles.
  • Assists with the cleanup of properties identified by the Code Compliance Department as requiring corrective action.
  • Uses hand tools and basic equipment such as rakes, shovels, brooms, carts, trash grabbers, and other related tools.
  • Assists with the removal of weeds, overgrown vegetation, and other materials from designated areas.
  • Maintains cleanliness of sidewalks, medians, rights-of-way, and other City-maintained areas.
  • Assists Code Compliance personnel with property cleanup activities associated with violations of City ordinances.
  • Identifies and reports hazardous conditions, illegal dumping, abandoned materials, or other code-related concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Properly sorts, handles, loads, and disposes of collected materials in accordance with City procedures.
  • Maintains assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs basic inspection of equipment before and after use and reports mechanical or safety concerns.
  • Works safely around traffic, pedestrians, construction areas, and other potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Assists other City departments or divisions with cleanup activities as assigned.
  • Provides courteous and professional service when interacting with residents, property owners, businesses, and members of the public.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
