About The Position

Johnson Crossing Academic Center (JCAC) is an upper elementary school serving grades 5-6, providing a supportive transition between elementary and middle school. Teachers collaborate in teams and specialize in a core subject (Math, Science, ELA, or Social Studies), allowing for curriculum focus while students rotate classrooms. This model fosters student independence and organizational skills within a stable, connected, and personalized team environment. Core assignments may change annually based on need and teacher endorsements.

Requirements

  • Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement and level for area and grade being taught.
  • Experience working with students, either during college training or from previous teaching.
  • Good human relations skills.
  • Ability to work with students, staff, administration, and parents.
  • Knowledge of subject area to be taught.
  • Ability to plan lessons, teach to an objective, have the lesson at the correct level of difficulty, check for understanding during the lesson, and monitor and adjust the lesson as necessary.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to operate a computer and an alphanumeric keyboard.
  • Regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job.
  • Ability to perform identified tasks and possess/utilize identified knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the specific job description.
  • Skillful in planning, assessment, and adjusting lessons.
  • Demonstrate effective conflict management, problem solving, evaluation, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work authorization required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lessons that match the intended curriculum and meet the needs of individual students.
  • Plan and deliver lessons with objectives at the correct level of difficulty for learners, including specific objectives.
  • Instruct assigned students at the designated location and times.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Monitor student progress and make appropriate adjustments to teaching strategies.
  • Serve as a model for students.
  • Evaluate student performance through written tests and performance-based assessments.
  • Collaborate with other teachers at the grade level (or in the same subject) to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods that represent desired curriculum outcomes and essential learning skills.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct/activities.
  • Develop reasonable classroom rules for behavior and procedure, and maintain order fairly.
  • Supervise and participate in fire drills and other emergency preparedness programs.
  • Follow policies, regulations, procedures, and expectations established by the Board and administration.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of attendance, absences, tardies, and other required information.
  • Attend staff meetings, conduct parent/teacher conferences, and participate on committees as required.
  • Participate in professional growth through workshops, seminars, conferences, inservices, and/or advanced coursework.
  • Complete special projects and perform other assigned responsibilities and miscellaneous duties.
