About The Position

The Classroom Teacher position at Valley Life Charter School (VLCS) is a full-time position with hours from 7:45 - 4:00 PM, with some evenings required. VLCS's mission is to provide a rigorous educational program that emphasizes academics, leadership, and visual and performing arts (VAPA). The school's vision is to "develop community leaders, one student at a time" by building character that supports core values such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. The instructional philosophy focuses on creating an environment where students are well-mannered leaders with exceptional listening skills, and the school commits to educating the whole person by including social skills and character development alongside academics and arts training.

Requirements

  • California Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate (or equivalent), NCLB highly qualified status for elementary, and CLAD.
  • Commitment to the school's mission.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of learning theories and curriculum development.
  • Proficiency with technology/computers (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial thinking, strategic vision, good judgment, and compassion.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid TB Clearance.
  • Clear criminal background/fingerprint clearance.
  • Commitment to working in an innovative, mission-driven environment.
  • Ability to tolerate high levels of stress.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Provide fingerprints and clear a background check via the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) before the first day of service.
  • Proof of a negative tuberculosis (TB) test or risk assessment within the last four years.
  • Sign a statement acknowledging responsibility to report known or suspected instances of child abuse or neglect as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and articulate a shared vision of academic excellence for the school community.
  • Create and maintain the support structures necessary to achieve the vision.
  • Serve as a core, utilizing one-on-one or small group settings.
  • Set standards for student achievement.
  • Lead, direct, and support the school’s instructional program.
  • Provide instructional leadership in advancing proven learning practices.
  • Oversee student assessment and evaluation.
  • Support the development of a network of student support systems.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Maintain a team philosophy.
  • Assist in the organizational strategic plan.
  • Be involved in committees and task forces.
  • Monitor student safety and security.
  • Teach leadership using the Leader in Me.
