About The Position

Legacy Charter School is seeking a passionate and student-centered Classroom Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. We are looking for an educator who is committed to providing scholars with rigorous academic experiences that prepare them for success with grade-level and above-grade-level content through consistent, joyful, social-emotional, and cognitive learning experiences. Legacy Charter School is a high-performing public charter school serving approximately 500 scholars in Pre-K through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. Our team is committed to building a strong learning environment where scholars are challenged, supported, and empowered to succeed academically and personally. The Classroom Teacher provides scholars with high-quality, standards-based instruction rooted in engaging, culturally relevant, and data-informed pedagogy. Teachers create strong classroom communities, build meaningful relationships with scholars and families, and focus deeply on academic growth and scholar success. This role is ideal for an educator who is skilled in lesson planning, classroom culture, data-informed instruction, and relationship-building with scholars, families, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Two or more years of full-time teaching experience, ideally in an urban school setting
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required

  • Provide high-quality instruction that is standards-based, engaging, rigorous, and culturally relevant
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction and support scholar growth
  • Develop positive and productive relationships within the classroom community and with staff members and Legacy families
  • Create a safe and productive learning environment through strong classroom routines and procedures
  • Implement restorative practices and support scholars’ social-emotional learning
  • Demonstrate respect for diverse people, ideas, and perspectives
