As a Classroom Assistant at Sand Hill School, you'll play a vital role in supporting our students' academic and behavioral success. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, you'll work collaboratively with teachers, behavior specialists, and mental health professionals to create a supportive learning environment for students with emotional, behavioral, and learning differences. Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in childcare, education, or mental health fields
  • Bachelor's degree in fields related to childcare, education, or mental health
  • Ability to work effectively on an interdisciplinary team
  • Basic computer skills including email communication and word processing
  • Ability to undergo training and implementation of Pro-ACT crisis management system
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods for instruction and supervision
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 lbs
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and following all legal and ethical guidelines

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with learning and/or behavioral challenges
  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities
  • Experience with trauma-informed practices
  • Knowledge of and/or classroom teaching experience with children with emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in presenting and preparing lessons tailored to student needs
  • Support the Behavior Specialist in monitoring and implementing the schoolwide Positive Behavior Training (PBT) management system at the classroom level
  • Instruct individuals and small groups of students in academic and behavioral areas as directed by classroom teachers and behavior specialists
  • Prepare materials, activities, and reports in conjunction with teaching and behavioral support staff
  • Plan and deliver weekly whole-group elective lessons
  • Supervise students during lunch, class transitions, and recess to ensure safety and positive behavior
  • Complete daily student attendance reporting and maintain accurate documentation
  • Support with the daily administration of student medications as trained
  • Document and distribute team notes, conference notes, and parent communications during meetings and as needed
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly staff, team, and classroom assistant meetings
  • Participate in special education instructional and mental health training seminars as directed
  • Cover for absent team members to ensure continuity of program delivery
  • Ensure adherence to school policies, California Educational Code, the CHC Employee Handbook, and child abuse and neglect reporting laws
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student and family information
  • Provide classroom coverage during staff absences, following teacher lesson plans and maintaining continuity of instruction
  • Help coordinate and co-facilitate the school's after-care program, including student supervision, homework support, and planning enrichment activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
