About The Position

The Classroom Assistant Teacher will work in conjunction with the Classroom Teacher to schedule, complete, and track all required home visits/conferences, developmental screenings, ongoing assessments, and classroom observations. They will assist in creating and updating individualized plans with parents to address each child’s needs and track progress. This role involves guiding and facilitating children's activities, including daily activities and field trips, and preparing/maintaining the classroom environment. The Assistant Teacher will also implement children's Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs), maintain communication with families, and participate fully in family-style meal service. Health and safety policies, including proper procedures for hygiene, accident prevention, and sanitation, must be followed. The position also involves generating non-federal share (in-kind) contributions, maintaining positive guidance and behavioral management techniques, and ensuring direct sight and sound supervision of all children. Communication with bus drivers regarding child information and assisting with bus loading/unloading are also responsibilities. The role requires attending all staff meetings, trainings, and center activities, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have a valid High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Possess a Preschool (PS) Child Development Associate credential or state-awarded certificate that meets/exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential or be enrolled in a CDA program immediately upon acceptance of position (must complete within 1 year).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, data entry and internet.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and adequate car insurance.
  • Criminal background check prior to employment.
  • Physical exam and TB screening test showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment or sooner if required by local/state regulation.
  • Complete SIDS & Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training.
  • Register in the state childcare registry.

Nice To Haves

  • Some childcare experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, complete, and track all required home visits/conferences, developmental screenings, ongoing assessments, and classroom observations.
  • Create and update individualized plans with parents to address each child’s needs and track child’s progress.
  • Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily activities and field trips.
  • Select and arrange equipment and materials in the classroom based on Creative Curriculum Standards, HSPS, and State Licensing Mandates.
  • Assist in the setup, maintenance, and daily preparation/clean-up of both the indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Implement children's I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) or I.F.S.P. (Individual Family Service Plan) and seek clarification when needed.
  • Assist in the completion of required reports on children and classroom activities.
  • Maintain written and verbal communication with families regarding developmental progress and other pertinent information.
  • Communicate with and respond to individual children during activities and routine, using appropriate tone and modeling techniques.
  • Participate fully in the Family Style Meal Service and assist children in developing social and self-help skills, sound nutritional practices, and required documentation.
  • Follow health and safety policies and procedures, including storage of hazardous materials, health and safety checklists, daily child observation, diapering/toileting/handwashing, injury/accident prevention, child accident reports, sanitizing, cleaning, and universal precautions.
  • Generate and collect non-federal share (In-kind) contributions.
  • Maintain positive guidance and behavioral management techniques.
  • Maintain direct sight and sound supervision of all children and demonstrate active supervision.
  • Communicate with bus driver/bus monitor any information to be shared with child’s parents or guardians.
  • Assist in loading and unloading the children on the school bus.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, in-service trainings, and center activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
