About The Position

Mary Cariola Center is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Classroom Aides. We are holding open interviews on Wednesday, July 22nd, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at 1000 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14620, Door 1. While an appointment is not necessary, applicants must submit an application to attend. This role involves supervising students throughout the school day, assisting with their educational and therapeutic programs, and supporting their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students throughout the school day while carrying out assigned, individualized, educational and therapeutic programs both within and outside the classroom
  • Assist students with their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including self care, feeding, fine motor and gross motor skills and range of motion
  • Provide the necessary lifting, moving and positioning of students
  • Support students in Specially Designed Physical Education classes and Therapeutic Pool Programs and lifting moving and positioning
  • Provide behavioral support for students as assigned, including implementing agency approved emergency physical interventions
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a positive educational atmosphere, including the health, medical and safety concerns of the students
  • Interact with students in an age-appropriate manner, consistently maintaining their rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality through various forms of communication
  • Demonstrate initiative and maintain an effective level of interaction with students during transition
  • Handle and utilize student equipment appropriately
  • Assist in the maintenance and care of the classroom, equipment, materials and program activities area
  • Observe students’ performance, records relevant data, and provides the classroom teacher with general information and observations concerning students’ needs, behavior and performance
  • Effectively and appropriately interact and communicates with classroom and professional team members while maintaining the integrity of the students, staff and agency
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom projects and materials, including setting up and putting away
  • Assist the students with individual and small group activities under the direction of Teacher/Designee
  • Carry out any other classroom related activities directed by the Teacher, Clinicians, or Designee
  • Assist in creating and maintaining positive work relationships
  • Interact and take direction from the Teacher, Teacher Aide IIs, Teacher Assistants, Clinicians, Education Supervisor, or Designee
  • Interact with parents, caregivers, and/or other visitors to the agency and direct the individual to the appropriate party
  • Other duties as assigned
