About The Position

Are you a network engineering professional with a passion for building mission-critical networks using proven technologies? Are you an energetic team player who wants to launch an impactful career contributing to the development, integration & test, and launch of specialized ground hardware and software for innovative spaceflight systems? If so, we invite you to join our team in the Space Exploration Sector (SES) at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). In this position, you will engineer and operationally support and administer ground system networks, infrastructure, and facilities used by leading software developers, physicists, and engineers to pioneer innovative and space warfighting concepts for a new era of national security in space.

Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Networks & Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field
  • Current DoD 8570 and 8140 compliance / certification (e.g., Security+)
  • Have 3+ years of Information Technology and Networking experience to include design, configuration, and deployment activities
  • Experience implementing Risk Management Framework (RMF) technical controls through Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and Security Requirements Guides (SRG)
  • Working knowledge of the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) Assessment, Authorization Process Manual (DAAPM), or Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) policies
  • Demonstrated IT systems engineering and administration experience designing and managing complex, large-scale, mission critical facilities, systems and infrastructure (Linux, Windows, Firewall, & Network technologies).
  • Self-starter with excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills including the ability to manage, direct, and collaborate with technical staff and teams within a multi-tasking environment.
  • Have the ability to interact and communicate across all organizational staffing levels and stakeholders including external sponsors to clearly present and convey complex technical information through both oral and written means.
  • Demonstrated track record of interacting with Government Teams, Program Management, Systems Engineers, and Data Scientists.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a Master’s Degree in Computer Networks & Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field
  • Have 5+ years of Information Technology and Networking experience to include design, configuration, and deployment activities
  • Support and/or manage IT facilities, systems, network and related infrastructure within a NASA or DoD program.
  • Have hands-on experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Cisco equipment, Palo Alto equipment, and/or NSA Type 1 encryption equipment
  • Familiarity with network routing protocols (Static, RIP, OSPF, BGP)
  • Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems
  • Implement and manage software defined networks (SDN)
  • Design and implement advanced multi-layer network architectures - Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Familiarity with Space Communications Protocol Standards (SCPS), Space Flight Launch, Spacecraft Processing Operations, Satellite Control Network (SCN), Space Ground Link Systems (SGLS), or Space and Missile Systems Center System Engineering standards.
  • Hold an active DoD TOP SECRET or higher security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Maintain network infrastructure to provide secure access and performance to all end users.
  • Detect, prevent, and resolve threats to computer networks.
  • Analyze security risks and develop security measures to address cybersecurity challenges.
  • Provide network and infrastructure support for satellite, flight, and ground systems.
  • Support in the design, build, test, and maintenance of network communications throughout the mission life-cycle phases.
  • Interact with aerospace scientists, applications engineers, program managers, subcontractors, and sponsors in technical meetings, formal reviews, and mission events.
  • Work along side technical teams in the development, implementation, integration, and testing of information systems, data and voice networks, special data acquisition systems, and test equipment in order to meet mission requirements, plans, performance, quality, and security objectives.
