The Classification Specialist will provide federal position classification and position management support. This includes evaluating positions, organizational structures, and workforce alignment. The role involves interpreting and applying classification standards, regulations, policies, and guidance to determine appropriate position titles, occupational series, grades, and related position designations. The specialist will consult with managers and supervisors to assess duties, responsibilities, organizational needs, and workforce requirements. Responsibilities also include reviewing, developing, editing, and validating position descriptions for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with assigned duties and classification standards. The role requires preparing classification evaluation statements, narrative justifications, and supporting documentation. Additionally, the specialist will determine and document Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status, bargaining unit status, and other position-related requirements. Conducting desk audits and position reviews through interviews, analysis of work assignments, and evaluation against established criteria is essential. The position involves identifying and recommending solutions for organizational and classification issues, providing guidance and customer support, and maintaining classification records for audit readiness. Updating human resources information systems and position management records is also a key function. The specialist will receive and review information from management to prepare position descriptions, evaluate existing descriptions using OPM standards, and provide technical classification assistance to supervisors and managers.
