Classification Specialist
About The Position
The Classification Specialist provides expert position classification services supporting the development, review, evaluation, and classification of federal civilian positions. The position performs classification analyses, position description development, job evaluations, and related advisory services in accordance with OPM classification standards and federal workforce management requirements. This position is being recruited in support of potential future contract awards, and qualified candidates may be considered for upcoming opportunities supporting federal government clients.
Requirements
- Minimum six (6) years of federal position classification experience.
- Demonstrated experience performing classification support services similar in scope and complexity.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to interpret Government regulations, directives, and policies and apply them appropriately.
- Experience with federal position classification principles and OPM standards.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required Government suitability determination and system access.
Nice To Haves
- Experience supporting DHS, USCG, DoD, or cabinet-level agencies.
- Expertise applying OPM Factor Evaluation System methodologies.
- Experience with supervisory, team leader, and wage-grade classification determinations.
- Experience preparing precedent-setting evaluation statements and classification packages.
- Existing DHS or federal suitability determination.
Responsibilities
- Draft, revise, and classify position descriptions and evaluation statements.
- Conduct position classification analyses and job audits.
- Apply OPM classification standards and factor evaluation methodologies.
- Compare positions with existing classifications to ensure consistency and equity.
- Prepare advisory classification determinations and supporting documentation.
- Perform job evaluations utilizing the OPM Factor Evaluation System (FES).
- Upload and maintain documentation within agency classification systems.
- Coordinate reviews with subject matter experts and organizational officials.
- Support workforce planning and organizational position structure assessments.
- Ensure all products comply with OPM, DHS, and USCG requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
