About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Suwannee Correctional Institution in the Classification Department. The purpose of the Classification Officer is to assess and manage inmate progress and needs through evaluations, planning, coordination, record-keeping, and disciplinary actions to promote positive adjustment and ensure effective inmate management. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves. Join our dynamic team and make a real impact! Requirements

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Must possess one (1) year as a Correctional Officer or one (1) year working for the Department of Corrections.
• Experience in case management that uses assessments, planning, coordination, and evaluation to meet the individuals’ needs.
• Experience reviewing, auditing, analyzing, and/or proofreading data.
• Experience applying laws, applicable rules, and procedures.
• Experience or training in the use of the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and/or related computer programs or applications.
• Experience with Microsoft applications such Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint.
• Experience responding to grievances, inmate requests, or other correspondence.
• The selected candidate must meet four (4) of the six (6) below listed qualifications OR have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Nice To Haves

• Four years’ experience in caseload management
• Four years’ experience analyzing data and/or interpreting rules/statutes.

Responsibilities

• Conducting periodic and unscheduled assessments to track inmate progress, set positive adjustment goals, and motivate inmates to achieve them.
• Develop comprehensive inmate management plans and identify needs and risks.
• Planning and coordinating targeted referrals for treatment, programs, work, and services to meet both inmate and departmental needs.
• Collaborate with various areas for optimal outcomes.
• Evaluating diverse information sources, such as reports, interviews, and observations, to make informed decisions on inmate management.
• Maintaining accurate and detailed inmate records in the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and other necessary applications.
• Compile and develop records as needed.
• Leading disciplinary hearings, making custody and reclassification recommendations, and handling special status inmate reviews.
• Ensure all eligible inmates receive appropriate gain time awards.
