About The Position

At the Kentucky State Penitentiary, the mission is to promote safety for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky by operating an efficient adult correctional institution. Our main purpose is to provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for its residents and to prepare incarcerated felons for a successful reintegration into society using constructive classification, employment training programs, treatment services, and social programs. The Classification and Treatment Officer is vital to this mission by performing duties in the evaluation, assessment, and counseling of inmates.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • All applicants must meet all federal and state laws applicable to the carrying, use, and possession of firearms and ammunition at the time of employment.
  • Employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience in corrections, law enforcement, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year for year basis.
  • Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Interview, evaluate, and assess inmates to identify behavioral patterns.
  • Develop case history on inmates.
  • Serve on committees to determine classification.
  • Prepare reports to assist with classification.
  • Provide daily counsel to inmates regarding the institution as well as personal or family matters.
  • Respond to inmate requests and outside agencies.
