As an Other Class Instructor with the City of Cortez, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment for participants of all levels and abilities, from beginners to advanced. Your responsibilities will include assisting and instructing classes while coordinating with supervisors to create a well-rounded and comprehensive program that meets the community's needs. You will be at the forefront of ensuring safety in the classroom, responding promptly to any incidents that may arise to maintain a secure atmosphere for all participants. This position not only allows you to share your expertise but also to contribute significantly to the overall educational experience within the community.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have CPR and First Aid Certificate or the ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Must be able to perform physical duties as required (program set up, general class preparation, program equipment maintenance, and lifting at least 50 lbs.).
  • Must have the ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work well with other instructors, the community, and other co-workers.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • One year group led supervisory experience preferred (for Instructor Apprentice level).
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision (for Instructor Apprentice level).
  • Must have a class certification approved by the Recreation Supervisor/Aquatics (for Instructor Apprentice level).
  • Two year group led exercise supervisory experience preferred (for Journey-level Instructor).
  • Must have multiple class certifications and teach at least three different classes (for Journey-level Instructor).
  • Must teach at least 5 different classes (for Advanced Instructor).
  • Possession of advanced certification (e.g., nationally accredited personal trainer certification) is preferred (for Advanced Instructor).
