About The Position
This position involves driving a Class B truck to haul scrap metal, along with various other duties related to scrap metal yard operations. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, effective communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Daily maintenance of the truck and work area cleanliness are also key responsibilities.
Requirements
- Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
- Must pass a background check.
- Ability to communicate with others effectively.
- Ability to understand direction (written or written).
- Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
- Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills.
- Previous experience operating a Wheel Loader.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
- Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
- Perform DOT daily operation and safety inspection.
- Communicate with office and customers to determine commodities to load.
- Drive scrap metal trucks independently.
- Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
- Work with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform normal daily operation maintenance including refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
- Clean up work area at the end of shift.
- Keep work areas neat and orderly.
- Organize materials for more effective use of space.
- Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
- Ensure cleanup is completed through inspection.
- Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace area for safety and hygienic conditions.
