About The Position

This position involves driving scrap metal trucks, loading and unloading them, and performing daily inspections. The role also requires interacting with customers and office staff, maintaining a safe working environment in the scrap metal yard, and performing regular maintenance on equipment. Effective housekeeping and organization of materials are also key aspects of the job.

Requirements

Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
Must pass a background check.
Ability to communicate with others effectively.
Ability to understand direction (written or oral).
Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills.
Previous experience operating a Wheel Loader.

Responsibilities

Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
Perform DOT daily operation and safety inspection.
Communicate with office and customers to determine commodities to load.
Drive scrap metal independently.
Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
Work with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
Perform normal daily operation maintenance: refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
Clean up work area at the end of shift.
Keep work areas neat and orderly.
Organize materials for effective use of space.
Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
Ensure cleanup is completed.
Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace area for safety and hygienic conditions.
