About The Position

San Diego Blood Bank has an opportunity to provide hands-on experience and paid training for individuals looking to start their Phlebotomy Career. This role ensures the safety, potency, and purity of all collected products by adhering to departmental and organizational policies. The position involves assisting with donor rescheduling and retention through excellent customer service, while maintaining the confidentiality of all donor and organizational information. The role requires performing assigned duties at various sites to meet high organizational standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Valid Class B CDL (or Class A/B DL) with Air Brake endorsement required.
  • Minimum three (3) years driving experience (personal or commercial).
  • Valid DOT medical certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy license or certification is preferred but not required.
  • Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Certification preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all quality and safety standards are met.
  • Assists with the rescheduling and retention of donors, through outstanding customer service and care.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all work related information concerning a donor, patient, research participant, the organization, other employees and volunteers.
  • Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, is responsible for: Donor safety and the safety, potency and purity of all products collected.
  • Assists with the management and documentation of adverse reactions/complications for procedures in which trained, as directed and within sphere of competence.
  • Activates the EMS system as appropriate / directed.
  • Updates the Registered Nurse / Team Leader /Donor Operations Supervisor/ Manager as necessary and following SOP.
  • Actively supports organizational strategic goals and donor, marketing and staff recognition and retention programs.
  • Follows the Daily Collection Plan, converts to automated collections as required and works towards goal by optimizing collections and actively rescheduling donors.
  • Supports and complies with organizational affirmative action policy.
  • Performs all duties in a professional manner, always projecting a positive role model image.
  • Maintains an awareness of legal implications of all work being performed.
  • Reviews and completes Safety, cGMP, competency requirements, assignments, SOPs, memos, and other assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Complies with SOP and performs all assigned activities and maintains competency for areas in which they are trained.
  • Maintains open communication channels and communicates effectively and professionally.
  • Checks company email at least once per day when on duty.
  • Maintains professional growth and development; increases job knowledge through continuing education via in-service meetings, NCW Education Days, etc. and reviews current literature to further strengthen working knowledge and a solid industry background and to keep abreast of latest trends in the field.
  • May need to drive company vehicles, for which they are licensed, as directed.
  • Loads, unloads and sets up equipment, signage, banners and supplies and ensures all required items are on hand.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Operates bloodmobiles and assigned commercial vehicles in compliance with DOT and organizational policies.
  • Maintains a valid Class B (or higher) CDL with appropriate endorsements.
  • Adheres to Class B Driver regulations and maintains a clean driving record.
  • Performs daily vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
  • Uses sound judgment regarding vehicle safety and drivability.
  • Transports blood products, hazardous waste, test tubes, and temperature-controlled supplies in accordance with regulations.
  • Loads, unloads, and sets up equipment, signage, banners, and supplies.
  • Ensures vehicles are parked and set up safely at designated sites.
  • Completes required driver documentation and checklists accurately.
  • Supports Hospital Services for CDL compliance and licensing management.
