This is a full-time position for a Professional Driver operating a Class A tractor trailer on commercial routes. The role involves ensuring safety and compliance with all regulations, effective customer communication, efficient fleet operations, and performing vehicle maintenance inspections. Quality and initiative are key, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries and communicating effectively with dispatch.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Willingness to drive a Class A tractor trailer on commercial routes.
  • Solid knowledge of all safety and regulatory requirements of operating a Class 8, commercial vehicle.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with Shippers and Consignees.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of truck cabs and trailers.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Solid knowledge of DOT regulations and the ability to abide by such regulations 100% of the time.
  • Ability to understand and follow Allen Distribution policies and procedures 100% of the time.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions from dispatch.
  • Ability to work and understand electronic communication including but not limited to in cab communication and e-logs.
  • Understand regional geography, reading maps, following directions and making effective and efficient travel route decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a Class A tractor trailer on commercial routes.
  • Maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements of operating a commercial vehicle, including DOT regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with Shippers and Consignees.
  • Perform effective pre or post trip inspections and communicate findings.
  • Ensure assigned loads are picked up and delivered as scheduled.
  • Communicate immediately to Dispatch if scheduled delivery time is at risk or if there are any service non-conformances.
  • Work and understand electronic communication, including in-cab communication and e-logs.
  • Understand regional geography, read maps, follow directions, and make effective travel route decisions.
  • Report immediately to Dispatch any unsafe acts or equipment that may cause injury or damage.
  • Communicate with Dispatch when loads are complete and ready for the next assignment.
  • Communicate with Dispatch prior to the end of the day if anything else is required.
  • Stay on schedule throughout the day, taking required breaks but no excessive breaks or time from scheduled travel.
  • Communicate recommendations for improvements in all areas of responsibility.
