About The Position

Professional Driver responsible for safely and efficiently transporting customer product via tractor trailer. This role contributes to the long-term success of the organization by adhering to company values and business practices, including Safety First, delivering on commitments with a positive attitude, treating everyone with respect and dignity, operating with high business ethics, being a good corporate citizen, valuing professional relationships, and striving for a continuous improvement culture.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Willingness to drive a Class A tractor trailer on commercial routes in Pennsylvania, New York, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and all other states within our operating area.
  • A solid knowledge of all safety and regulatory requirements of operating a Class 8, commercial vehicle.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with Shippers and Consignees.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of truck cabs and trailers.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • A solid knowledge of DOT regulations and the ability to abide by such regulations 100% of the time.
  • Ability to understand and follow Allen Distribution policies and procedures 100% of the time.
  • Report immediately to Dispatch any unsafe acts or equipment that may cause injury or damage to others.

  • Appearance: Maintains an appropriate appearance and dresses in accordance with the established dress code guidelines to your respective position.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport customer product via tractor trailer.
  • Perform effective pre or post trip inspections and communicate findings to Dispatch or Maintenance teams.
  • Secure cargo appropriately to protect from damage and theft.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, Shippers, and Consignees.
  • Resolve issues promptly or request assistance from Dispatch.
  • Read and understand work instructions from dispatch.
  • Understand and utilize electronic communication, including in-cab communication and e-logs.
  • Understand regional geography, read maps, follow directions, and make effective travel route decisions.
  • Ensure assigned loads are picked up and delivered as scheduled.
  • Communicate immediately to Dispatch if a scheduled delivery time is at risk.
  • Communicate any service non-conformance to Dispatch.
  • Communicate with Dispatch when loads are complete and ready for the next assignment.
  • Communicate with Dispatch prior to the end of the day if anything else is required.
  • Stay on schedule throughout the day, taking required breaks but no excessive breaks or time from scheduled travel.
  • Communicate recommendations for improvements in all areas of responsibility.
