About The Position

The Syfan Transport Class A Trailer Technician position supports the shop operations by performing routine mechanical and preventive maintenance duties specific to trailer repair and maintenance, including inspections, maintenance, and repair. The role involves maintaining required computerized and manual records of all repairs and coordinating repairs with supervisors. These duties are consistently performed in adherence to DOT Compliance, company policies, procedures, values, and behavioral expectations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with all air brake systems and principles, including troubleshooting of major issues and valve components.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, and electronic system failures.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Possesses critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making capabilities in fast paced environments.
  • Possesses the ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine the appropriate maintenance intervention.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and adhere to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to work in a positive, fast paced and high energy environment.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate a positive attitude and teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License required.
  • Candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Ability to safely access trailers, equipment compartments, and elevated work areas.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperature environments.
  • Complies with OSHA regulations and shop health safety standards by wearing prescribed PPE’s (personal protective equipment).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of A.B.S. brake system preferred.
  • Basic proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and web based applications preferred.
  • CDL Class A preferred.
  • DOT inspector qualifications (396.19) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately determine vehicle condition by conducting thorough inspections and diagnostics tests; accurately identify worn and damaged parts.
  • Complete the proper installation and adjustment of brakes, batteries, tires, and safety devices.
  • Overhaul all other major mechanical components.
  • Consistently and accurately determine and order correct parts for the completion of all job tasks.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment to optimize effective job performance and customer service.
  • Enhance shop operations and the company’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests as well as exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by shop foreman and/or shop manager.
  • Utilize diagnostic software and testing equipment to identify equipment malfunctions and determine corrective actions.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance records, inspection reports, and parts documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies necessary for repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair recommendations to management and operations personnel.
  • Assist in developing maintenance schedules and identifying recurring equipment issues.
  • Perform fabrication and welding duties.
  • Perform/assist with DOT inspections.
  • Maintain and work on brakes/air breaks as needed.
  • Maintain trailer PM’s.
  • Perform some truck repair as needed.
  • Ensure all work is performed according to manufacturer specifications and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
