About The Position

The Class A Lead Support Driver serves as the Area Manager’s primary operational partner and second-in-command. This position provides frontline leadership and daily support to drivers while helping ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted service operations. The Lead Support Driver must be prepared to travel throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada to cover routes when drivers are absent, on vacation, or when additional operational support is required. Route coverage assignments may last one to two weeks at a time depending on business needs. When not covering routes, the Lead Support Driver will support daily operations as assigned by the Area Manager, operating primarily from the Goodyear, Arizona office. Responsibilities may include supporting utility drivers, resolving service issues, coordinating route coverage, training and retraining drivers, managing service cases, assisting with fleet needs, and completing office-based operational assignments. This position leads by example in the field, reinforces company standards, and serves as an important communication link between drivers, dispatch, management, and other departments.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada.
  • Ability to remain away from home for one to two weeks at a time, or longer when operationally necessary.
  • Minimum of two to three years of commercial driving, transportation, logistics, or related operational experience.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record and ability to meet all company and DOT driving requirements.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, and safe commercial-driving practices.
  • Experience operating electric pallet jacks and PTO systems.
  • Ability to work from the Goodyear, Arizona office when not covering routes.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and provide leadership in the field.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated professional competency.
  • Previous lead-driver, driver-trainer, dispatch, route-management, or transportation-operations experience.
  • Experience training, coaching, and supporting CDL drivers.
  • Truck-dispatching experience preferred.
  • Experience using Samsara, Roadnet, CRM platforms, routing systems, or other transportation-management software.
  • Experience resolving customer-service issues and managing service cases.
  • Experience coordinating fleet maintenance, preventive maintenance, and annual vehicle inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Area Manager’s second-in-command by supporting daily operations and managing assigned activities in the manager’s absence.
  • Travel throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada to cover routes as operational needs arise.
  • Cover routes for one to two weeks at a time, or longer when necessary, due to vacations, call-offs, vacancies, or other coverage needs.
  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles and all required route equipment.
  • Support daily operations from the Goodyear, Arizona office when not assigned to route coverage.
  • Provide direct support to CDL drivers, including route assistance, operational troubleshooting, and ensuring service completion.
  • Support utility drivers and other field personnel as assigned by the Area Manager.
  • Resolve service cases promptly, including customer complaints, missed services, and operational disruptions.
  • Schedule, track, document, and close service cases accurately and within established timelines.
  • Train and retrain drivers on safety procedures, equipment operation, customer-service expectations, and company standards.
  • Assist with onboarding and field training for newly hired drivers.
  • Coordinate route coverage and assist with daily and long-term route planning.
  • Work closely with the Logistics Manager and Area Manager to improve routing and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor daily operations to ensure safety, compliance, productivity, and service standards are met.
  • Reinforce company policies and provide coaching and performance feedback to drivers.
  • Assist with investigations involving service failures, safety concerns, or operational issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify vehicle and equipment maintenance needs and coordinate repairs, preventive maintenance services, and annual inspections.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication among drivers, dispatch, management, and other departments.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and customer service.
  • Complete office-based operational tasks, including Excel reporting, billing, routing support, and work within Samsara and Roadnet.
  • Support fleet-service activities involving electric pallet jacks, PTO systems, and related equipment.
  • Perform additional operational duties as assigned by the Area Manager.
