Class A Driver (AWAY FROM HOME WEEKLY)
About The Position
Maine Oxy is immediately hiring for a Class A Driver with a Hazmat Endorsement position based in Baytown, TX. Our Class A Driver (w/Hazmat) will deliver Helium compressed gas cylinders to customers on scheduled route, returning with empty cylinders. A typical work week is Monday through Friday, with overtime opportunities (including weekends) during peak season (January through June). This position will typically have overnights 3-4 nights per week, depending on the delivery area being covered. This is not a home-daily position and requires overnight travel 3-4 nights per week. The driver will depart our location in Baytown, TX on Monday morning and return on Friday. The routes cover territories in TX, LA and OK, divided into 4 zones with one zone covered per week. The driver will be in the same general area all week.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year driving experience or driving school training in the past 4 years.
- CDL A License with HazMat.
- Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the public.
- Understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
- Must be able to drive hazardous cargo for up to 8 hours
- Ability to perform very heavy work—routinely lift 25lbs to 75lbs and occasionally lift 76lbs to greater than 100lbs.
- Ability to smell/hear leaking gas from cylinders.
Responsibilities
- Safely deliver helium cylinders to established customers
- Load/unload cylinders and return empties to the fill plant
- Perform daily vehicle safety inspections
- Complete delivery paperwork and maintain DOT compliance
- Build relationships with repeat customers and help manage their inventory needs
