Class A Driver/Equipment Operator
About The Position
The Equipment Operator / Class A Driver position is responsible for transferring, spreading, and loading MSW, Clean Wood, C and D waste, and Single Sort Recyclables to ensure materials are transported and disposed of appropriately. The role operates heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, processes materials for recycling, inspects and maintains equipment, keeps records, and supports site and building maintenance. The position is performed outdoors and involves exposure to extreme weather, heavy machinery, dust and fumes, noise, odors, gases, heavy traffic, and possible toxic chemicals. Physical duties include standing, walking, handling or operating objects, tools, or controls, reaching, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 100 pounds. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Class A CDL.
- Previous experience with heavy equipment.
- May be required to obtain various certifications related to the assigned area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact solid waste or soil using excavators, loaders, landfill compactors, backhoes, tractors, skid steers, and off-road trucks.
- Process materials for recycling using grinders and screeners.
- Operate heavy commercial trucks, tractor-trailers, and roll-offs.
- Perform pre- and post-operation inspections on equipment and vehicles.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain various records and/or logs.
- Wash, lubricate, and fuel equipment and vehicles.
- Pick materials from incoming loads.
- Perform site grounds maintenance, including picking litter, mowing, weed whipping, street sweeping, plowing, and dust control.
- Perform building and other stationary equipment maintenance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
