About The Position

Interstate Waste is Hiring Class A Truck Drivers in Jersey City, NJ for an Overnight Position. The CDL-A Drivers will be operating tractor trailers transporting containers of municipal and commercial waste between local Transfer Stations and rail yards. Interstate Waste Services is a progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services, primarily servicing Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, and New York City, with a landfill in Ohio. Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Class A, Tractor Trailer Driving experience is required along with a good safety record.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • All Drivers must have a valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement, and a clean driving record.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL-A, within the last 7 years.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and applicable traffic regulations.
  • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Must be able to read and understand a map.
  • Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
  • Must be willing and able to work required worked hours as allowed under DOT regulation and may include weekend, night, and/or holiday work.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years experience is preferred.
  • Inter-modal Container Experience preferred.
  • Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuge company is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operating the truck in compliance with IWS’s safety standards, OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • Ensuring that the intermodal container and its content are always secure on the Tractor & Chassis Unit, which may require climbing onto containers and/or reaching overhead.
  • Performing pre- and post-route inspections of the assigned truck and documenting any safety issues on standard reports.
  • Continuously monitoring for safety and service-related issues, as well as containers or other equipment in need of repair, and reporting any issues to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
  • Being responsible and accountable for the safety of themselves, colleagues, trucks, and other equipment and property.
  • Immediately notifying Route Supervisor or Dispatch of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Communicating professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times, including receiving and reporting complaints about schedules and quality of service in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
