About The Position

Granite Construction is seeking a heavy equipment operator who holds a Class A CDL. The primary responsibility of this role is the daily operation of excavators and bulldozers, with the secondary requirement of operating the site water truck as a backup driver. A valid Class A CDL is strictly required for this position. Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Proven experience operating excavators and bulldozers
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
  • 1 to 3 yrs. experience
  • Read and interpret road maps
  • Practice good safety habits
  • Work in dusty or dirty surroundings
  • Follow instructions and meet set standards for hauling and scheduling
  • Judge distances and weights accurately
  • Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
  • Stoop, bend, and crouch
  • Use hands, arms, and legs fully
  • See well (either naturally or with correction)
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and bulldozers daily with high precision and safety.
  • Operate the site water truck to support operations when backup driving is needed.
  • Maintain situational awareness and adhere to all safety protocols on active jobsites.
  • Drive truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads.
  • Prepare receipts for load picked up.
  • Collect payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges.
  • May maintain truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
  • May maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • May load and unload truck.
  • May inspect truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • May perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark plugs.
  • May position blocks and tie rope around items to secure cargo during transit.
