About The Position

Metro Group Inc., a dynamic and growing metal recycling company, is looking for a dependable Class A CDL Driver with experience pulling double trailers. In this role, you'll transport scrap metal materials between customer locations and Metro Group facilities, keeping safety, reliable service, and positive customer interactions at the center of your day.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL with a doubles and triples endorsement T and a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of five years of commercial driving experience.
  • Experience pulling doubles required, including safe coupling, uncoupling, inspections, and maneuvering.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, hours-of-service requirements, air brake systems, and safe load securement practices.
  • Ability to strap and secure your own loads and use tarping equipment as required.
  • Strong safety awareness, attention to detail, and sound judgment when driving combination vehicles and working around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical duties of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation, including climbing into and out of the cab, handling securement equipment, connecting trailers, and operating landing gear.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a tractor-trailer combination pulling doubles, following traffic laws, commercial driving requirements, and company procedures. Adjust speed, following distance, and maneuvering for the length and handling of the combination, road conditions, and weather.
  • Safely couple and uncouple the tractor, trailers, and connecting equipment. Verify coupling locks, air lines, electrical connections, landing gear, and safety devices according to the equipment configuration and company training.
  • Strap and otherwise secure your own loads using equipment appropriate to the material and trailer type. Tarp loads when required and check securement during the trip as applicable.
  • Coordinate with loading personnel to confirm safe weight distribution, trailer positioning, and applicable vehicle and axle weight limits. Address overloaded, uneven, or unsafe loads before transport.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor, both trailers, and connecting equipment, including brakes, tires, lights, couplings, and load securement. Perform required brake checks and report defects promptly.
  • Follow routes approved for the doubles configuration. Check access, clearances, turning space, and traffic conditions before entering customer sites or yards; use a spotter when needed.
  • Communicate with dispatch, operations, and loading teams about assignments, delays, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions. Follow site procedures during loading and unloading.
  • Treat customers professionally, protect their property, and communicate clearly during pickups and deliveries.
  • Complete delivery tickets, bills of lading, scale paperwork, and required driving logs. Wear required PPE, follow yard traffic rules, handle materials responsibly, and report spills, hazards, and incidents promptly.
