About The Position

The Shipping Driver is responsible for storing and transporting rolls of paper with a Clamp Truck from the machine to the warehouse in a timely manner and rolls of paper onto trailers for shipping to customers. This role requires the ability to read orders, possess basic mathematical skills, complete accurate shipping documentation, and operate a clamp truck. The position involves mental abilities such as reading orders, preparing legible reports, oral communication, operating a calculator, and using a computerized scanning machine. Physical demands include climbing onto an industrial truck, operating foot pedals, occasional ladder climbing, operating hands/arms for driving and lift controls, excellent depth perception for maneuvering, and manually maneuvering items up to 50 pounds. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to plant policies, ensuring guards are in place, following lock-tag-try procedures, observing hazards, and following all safety rules. The job also requires the ability to read, write, and speak English, multi-digit number recognition, good mathematical and handwriting skills, the ability to work well with others and flexible hours, and constant observation of the immediate area for hazards and pedestrians. The driver must operate a steering wheel, hydraulic levers, foot pedals, and a handheld scanner.

Responsibilities

  • Store and transport rolls of paper with a Clamp Truck from the machine to the warehouse.
  • Load rolls of paper onto trailers for shipping to customers.
  • Read orders and prepare reports legibly and properly.
  • Communicate orally with all personnel in the plant.
  • Operate a calculator for basic mathematical computations.
  • Operate a computerized scanning machine for raw material tracking.
  • Climb onto an industrial truck and operate two foot pedals.
  • Occasionally climb a ladder.
  • Operate both hands/arms for driving and lift controls.
  • Maneuver the clamp truck and raw materials around crowded areas with co-workers nearby.
  • Maneuver items manually that are 50 pounds or less.
  • Ensure guards are in place.
  • Follow lock-tag-try procedures.
  • Observe hazards such as nip points.
  • Follow plant and department safety rules.
  • Operate a steering wheel, hydraulic levers, foot pedals, and a handheld scanner.
