Claims Representative Internship - Summer 2026
About The Position
Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Claims Intern. This internship offers a challenging and rewarding experience where you will contribute to financial security by helping individuals and businesses make a new start when a loss occurs. You will gain valuable experience in investigating and assembling facts, determining policy coverage, evaluating the amount of loss, analyzing legal liability, and processing claims payments. This role also involves becoming familiar with insurance coverage by studying policies and forms, working towards claim resolutions, and potentially attending legal proceedings. You will also service the needs of agents, policyholders, and others through phone, mail, and on-site investigations.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled and entering junior or senior year in college
- Above average communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to resolve complex issues
- Organize and interpret data
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Detail oriented
- Ability to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship
Responsibilities
- Investigate and assemble facts
- Determine policy coverage
- Evaluate the amount of loss
- Analyze legal liability
- Pay or deny losses
- Become familiar with insurance coverage by studying insurance policies, endorsements and forms
- Work towards the resolution of claims
- Attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as necessary
- Ensure that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner
- Service the needs of agents, policyholders and others
- Handle investigations by phone, mail and on-site investigations
