Claims Examiner - 1st Party Property
About The Position
The Claims Examiner adjudicates assigned claims within given authority and provides operational support to the claims team. This person also adjusts and resolves moderate claims that includes all phases of 1st Party commercial claims for the Property Team. They accurately review and assess coverage for all losses, complete full in-depth investigations to confirm how coverage is relevant and applies it to the loss, and manage smaller business income losses and the period of restoration. The role requires accurate documentation of claim files with all relevant claim documentation, correspondence and notes in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory authorities. The Claims Examiner accurately assesses reserves for indemnity and expense payments. With minimal supervision, they draft coverage letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters, and drive 1st Party Best Practices to manage expense and exposure on losses. This role requires a high level of customer service, identification of suspected fraudulent claims with tracking with the special investigations unit, and participation in Claims projects as needed.
Requirements
- 1+ years of 1st Party Commercial claims handling experience
- Advanced knowledge of claims analysis and adjusting practices
- In depth knowledge of standards for claims documentation
- Proven ability to actively and effectively negotiate settlement of moderate to complex claims
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Nice To Haves
- Active insurance adjuster’s license preferred
- B.A./B.S degree from an accredited College or University preferred
- Subject matter expertise
- Demonstrated take charge attitude and ability to work with minimal oversight within their authority levels
- Identifies and suggests improvements to processes within the claim department and raises with manager
