About The Position

Serves the Authority through the investigation and processing of claims of a highly complex and detailed nature for benefit entitlement under Workers' Compensation. Under general direction, in an advanced working-level professional capacity, determines the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and compensability of claims for medical and indemnity benefit entitlement incidental to injuries which occur in the workplace. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field and four (4) years experience in the administration, negotiation, adjudication, and resolution of Workers' Compensation claims (preferably with a Georgia self-insurer).
  • Professional experience can be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of a college degree.
  • Thorough knowledge of Georgia Workers' Compensation laws required.
  • Extensive background in processing claims of a catastrophic nature required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates, analyzes, evaluates, negotiates, and/or adjudicates claims for Workers' Compensation benefit entitlement in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations as promulgated by the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation.
  • Evaluates findings and prepares written reports, documents conclusions and recommends actions, based on any analysis of such findings.
  • Works closely with claimant employees, supervisors, attending physicians, rehabilitation providers, and various departments of the State Board of Workers' Compensation in an effort to return employees to gainful employment as soon as possible.
  • Ensures that medical and indemnity payments are issued timely and in accordance with all applicable State of Georgia Workers' Compensation Rules and Regulations, and/or conditions governing each specific claim. Ensures that all state required reports are filed timely and that claim files are properly maintained.
  • Provides information and assistance to MARTA's General Counsel in the resolution of claims in litigation.
  • Assures that claims eligible for subrogation and Subsequent Injury Trust Fund are pursued in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
