About The Position

Under limited supervision and with independent judgment, the CL Underwriter reviews insurance applications to evaluate risks and determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing. The role reviews applications, renewals, and endorsements within defined authority and may approve, modify, or decline risks. The position also supports agents and internal staff, maintains profitable business in the assigned territory, and may provide guidance to junior staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or four to six years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work legally in the United States; visa sponsorship or support is not available, including for a U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Nice To Haves

• Related functional training, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), or other insurance education certificates.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate insurance applications, renewals, and endorsements within defined authority; approve, modify, or decline risks.
• Determine and authorize reinsurance when necessary.
• Communicate with agents and internal staff to obtain information needed for risk assessment.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with agents and internal staff; respond to inquiries by telephone, correspondence, agency visits, and visits to insured operations.
• Maintain profitable business in the territory through appropriate selection, pricing, and monitoring of business.
• May assign tasks to junior staff, provide training and guidance, and give management input regarding their performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
