About The Position

The City of Chandler Police Department, Media Relations Unit, is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Civilian Public Information Officer. This is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits. The anticipated work schedule is Tuesday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, with after hours on-call duties assigned on a rotational basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communications, Digital Media or a related field; and/or at least 3-years of experience in marketing or communications with an emphasis on social media; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Possess or obtain a valid Arizona driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately disseminate information to the public in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with important stakeholders across the Police Department and City of Chandler.
  • Create engaging social media content to include photos, videos and graphics, and other materials.
  • Serve as a proficient storyteller who can deliver complex information to internal and external audiences.
  • Monitor requests from the media and respond in a timely manner to calls regarding critical incidents while assigned to an on-call rotation.
  • Operate mirrorless camera systems, stabilizers, microphones, lighting kits and other production equipment.
  • Organize opportunities for media to cover aspects of the Department’s Operations.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attend department events to capture digital media posts on the department’s social media platforms.
  • Assist in managing the department’s digital content calendar and contribute to overall content strategy.
  • Participate in a broad range of event production, staging and technical support services.
  • Work nights and weekends on occasion.
  • Ensure visual content aligns with department brand, tone and messaging goals.
  • Collaborate with police and city leadership to plan and execute projects.
