About The Position

This position provides for the care and security of jurors serving in the court system for St. Croix County. It also provides responsive, courteous, and efficient service to County residents and the general public. This position is a sworn judicial appointment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Must successfully pass background investigation.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position, including evenings and weekends if requested.
  • Understanding of the structure, functions, and procedures of local, state, and federal government agencies, particularly within Wisconsin.
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws, regulations, and policies that pertain to the job, including Wisconsin Statutes and administrative codes.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service practices and the ability to apply them in a public sector environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally, respectfully, and tactfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Technical proficiency in the use of relevant software applications, databases, or other technology tools used in the position (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.).
  • General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities, policies, and work demands.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues across departments to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to apply ethical judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding business-related files, reports, and conversations, within the provision of open records law and other applicable State and Federal Statutes and Regulations.

  • Sufficient vision to perform tasks such as reading documents, operating vehicles, or working with detailed data.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels for tasks such as communicating with the public, colleagues, judges and jurors or over the phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous courtroom or law enforcement experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out directives from the judge and Clerk of Court regarding duties to be performed during the course of the workday and acts as a liaison at appropriate times between jurors, judges, and attorneys during trial and jury deliberation.
  • Provides for basic courtroom security including attentiveness to court participants and people in the courtroom audience, and on-the-spot checks of the jury room, courtroom, bathrooms, lounges, and jury box.
  • Opens and prepares the jury assembly area and courtroom upon commencement of a trial.
  • Performs trial disposition responsibilities including proper disposal of jurors' notes, cleaning the courtroom and jury room, and restocking jury supplies upon completion of a trial.
  • Maintains contact with all jurors during rest breaks or time of deliberations.
  • Provides for special needs of the jurors as requested.
  • Arranges and coordinates juror meals, transportation of jurors to local restaurants, and, if necessary, housing for the jurors.
  • Provides materials needed by the jury, which could include pencils, paper, exhibits, and approved written documents.
  • Escorts jury members to restrooms, lunchrooms, or lounges.
  • Accompanies an ill juror to the medical clinic for a physician's evaluation.
  • Secures sequestered jurors in their hotel rooms and arranges for any special needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
