About The Position

Join WGM Group's dynamic engineering design team and contribute to innovative, community-oriented civil engineering projects in the Northern Rockies! In this role as a Civil/Water Resources Staff Engineer, you will focus on stormwater and hydraulics design for site development, subdivisions, and transportation projects across Montana. You will also assist with flood and scour modeling tasks related to bridges, bank stabilizations, and restoration designs. Based out of our Missoula office, this role offers the opportunity to grow as you play a key role in project execution for critical public and private sector projects under the guidance of licensed engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 2-4+ years of experience in civil engineering water resource and stormwater projects.
  • Licensed Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
  • Familiarity with various hydrologic methods.
  • Ability to interpret stormwater design standards.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Solid organizational skills with an ability to prioritize projects and daily workload.
  • Aptitude for problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA), HEC-RAS 1D & 2D, HY-8, Autodesk Civil3D.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional/Optional software skills: EPA SWMM, Hydraflow Hydrographs, SRH-2D, HEC-HMS, Bentley Flowmaster, and site/road grading in Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with FEMA floodplain processes and terminology, MDT hydraulic design processes, DEQ Circular 8, HEC-18, HEC-23, and dual drainage stormwater models are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform drafting and design for a wide range water resources and stormwater projects such as transportation systems, stormwater management, drainage, bridge, and other hydraulic facilities.
  • Complete hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for various jurisdictions in Montana.
  • Conduct field data collection efforts and compile documentation to support engineering work products.
  • Assist with flood and scour modeling tasks related to bridges, bank stabilizations, and restoration designs.
  • Prepare technical reports, reports and calculation packages, basic/standard sections of construction documents and specifications.
  • Coordinate and review work with project managers.
  • Compile and submit permit applications to local, state and federal agencies.
  • Perform construction observation, site visits, and infrastructure testing.
