The Substation Design team is looking for an energetic and experienced Civil Substation Lead Engineer to join our Vancouver, BC office.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in substation civil/structural design.
  • University Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in Canada.
  • Eligibility to be registered as a member of the EGBC.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience as a team lead, manager, or project manager.
  • 3+ years of experience with designs for electric Utilities in Western Canada.
  • Proficiency in design programs such as SAFI, S-Frame, STAAD, MFAD, LPile, Civil 3D.
  • French language skills.
  • Construction management or site supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in Project Management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a design team in executing and delivering all aspects of substation civil designs for voltages up to 735 kV.
  • Manage design tasks and coordinate design progress within a multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Provide direct supervision and mentorship to less experienced professionals.
  • Perform structural design, including seismic design, analysis, and detailing of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry structures, such as equipment steel supports and foundations (piling, dead-man, anchoring systems, grillages), prefab control buildings, and underground cable trenches, ductbanks, manholes, and vaults.
  • Perform civil design, analysis, and detailing for site preparation and development, fencing arrangement plans and details, access roads and intersection design (plan & profile), water management studies (site drainage, culverts, ditches), erosion and sedimentation control plans, oil spill catchment and containment systems, and fill embankments and retaining walls.
  • Prepare estimates and resource assignments for RFPs and design changes.
  • Prepare technical reports, plans, specifications, Scope of Work, and construction work packages; review site and shop drawings during design and construction.
  • Meet with clients, understand their needs, prepare proposals and letters of intent, and establish budgets and timelines. Liaise with clients to monitor project progress and incorporate their feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to provide construction support and resolve project issues, including technical requests, finalization, and budget inquiries.
  • Conduct contractual follow-ups, draft amendments, and monitor the financial evolution of contracts.
