About The Position

CEP Forensic is seeking a top-notch Civil & Structural Engineer to join their team in Calgary, AB. This role involves tackling complex scenarios and solving mysteries backed by scientific reasoning. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating and determining the causal factors of damage in residential, commercial, and light industrial claims, while eliminating other possible causes. This is a challenging and rewarding role requiring a thorough understanding of civil and structural engineering principles and their application in failure investigations.

Requirements

  • University degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license.
  • 6+ years of experience in civil & structural (wood, concrete, steel) design, construction, condition assessment, failure investigations and analysis.
  • Strong command of both oral and written communication including report writing in English.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Codes and Standards.
  • Ability to synthesize information, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Concern for efficiency, project deliver, attention to detail, and goal achievement.
  • Curiosity, good judgment and initiative are the key success factors for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in renovation or repair of existing buildings is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in building condition assessments is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage structural failure investigations and determine root cause of the failure and damage to buildings, foundations, structures, and building envelope mechanisms.
  • Attend client meetings and on-site inspections, perform damage surveys and condition assessments.
  • Review technical documentation including drawings, standards, codes, regulations, material specifications, maintenance, modification records, etc.
  • Perform Provincial Codes and Standards compliance analysis and reviews.
  • Gather evidence and determine circumstances surrounding the incident by capturing data, photographs, videos, and interviewing parties associated with the incident.
  • Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court if required.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts on complex investigations.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, from preliminary findings to detailed technical documentation.
  • Manage multiple projects while ensuring quality, timelines, and client expectations are met.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
  • Participate in business development activities and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.
