About The Position

STV is seeking a highly skilled Civil/Structural Estimator with deep expertise in concrete and structural steel systems to join our Project Controls group in New York City. This role will be responsible for developing accurate, detailed estimates for structural and heavy civil components of this complex, high-visibility infrastructure project. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of constructability, quantity take-offs, and cost drivers specific to reinforced concrete, structural steel framing, and large-scale urban construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7–12+ years of estimating experience focused on civil and structural scopes
  • Demonstrated expertise in concrete and structural steel estimating for large-scale infrastructure or vertical construction projects
  • Strong experience with quantity take-offs and cost analysis from construction documents
  • In-depth knowledge of construction means and methods, materials, and cost drivers
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and coordination skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting transportation, transit, or large public agency projects (Port Authority, MTA, DOT)
  • Familiarity with urban infrastructure construction constraints (phasing, access, logistics, staging)
  • Experience with Design-Build, CM/GC, or alternative delivery methods
  • Proficiency with estimating tools and software (e.g., CostX, RSMeans, Bluebeam, Primavera, eBuilder)
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ACI, AISC, IBC)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for concrete (cast-in-place, precast, foundations, rebar) and structural steel systems across all project phases
  • Perform quantitative take-offs from design drawings, specifications, and BIM models for civil and structural scopes
  • Analyze labor, material, equipment, and installation costs specific to heavy civil and structural construction
  • Develop cost models and pricing strategies for complex building and infrastructure elements
  • Evaluate structural systems including deep foundations, superstructure framing, elevated slabs, and support systems
  • Interpret design documentation to identify scope gaps, constructability risks, and cost drivers
  • Provide input into value engineering and alternative design solutions for cost optimization
  • Work closely with engineers, structural designers, contractors, and construction managers to validate estimate assumptions
  • Participate in design reviews, cost workshops, and estimate reconciliation sessions
  • Support coordination with the Port Authority and project leadership on cost strategy and reporting
  • Evaluate cost risks, escalation, and contingencies related to steel and concrete market conditions
  • Support pricing of change orders, scope revisions, and design updates
  • Review contractor bids and third-party estimates for accuracy, competitiveness, and completeness
  • Collaborate with scheduling and cost control teams to align estimates with project schedules and budgets
  • Assist in tracking cost performance and forecasting as design advances
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, benchmarks, and historical cost data
