About The Position

WSP is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineering (Transmission Lines) Intern for Summer 2027 to work out of our Ann Arbor, MI office. This temporary position is for individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program. WSP USA offers hundreds of internships across the United States, providing hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance education and professional aptitude. Interns gain exposure to real projects while working with senior staff. Through the Developing Professionals Network, interns receive mentorship, networking opportunities, and lifelong career connections. This internship is part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12-week program scheduled to start on May 17th, 2027, with a flexible start date. WSP has global expertise in power delivery, power generation, and program management, strengthened by the acquisition of POWER Engineers, Inc. and the addition of TRC Companies, enhancing our power practice and energy advisory services. We are partnering with clients to shape the evolution of energy systems worldwide.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate or Master program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in transmission lines, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate or Master program.
  • Ideal coursework includes structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, foundation design, and surveying.
  • Previous engineering design or drafting work experience, especially if related to civil and/or structural engineering, is desirable.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Transmission Line Engineering.
  • Participate in all aspects of transmission line design for new installations, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic enhancements.
  • Use PLS CADD Modeling software and aerial imagery to map and represent transmission line routes.
  • Collaborate directly with utility stakeholders and construction partners.
  • Gain expertise in model design, construction material procurement, and creation of professional drawings for construction purposes.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
