About The Position

The Civil Engineering Departments within Candu Energy are engaged in nuclear civil engineering work involving structural analysis, civil design, and ageing management to support life extension, plant modification, and service work for existing Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) and New Builds. Civil/Structural engineers are required to perform structural and seismic analysis, seismic margin assessment, and structural design, as well as prepare and issue analysis, design, and assessment documents. Candu Energy Inc. is looking to hire multiple Civil/Structural Engineers for full-time term/permanent positions. The types of engineering work include structural and seismic analysis, structural design check, and assessment of structures, systems, and components. Documentation to be produced includes analysis reports, design calculations, design reports, technical specifications, and design requirements. The candidate should be familiar with the use of one analysis program such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI, ETABS, SAFE, etc. This is an opportunity for those wishing to participate in the Candu Energy nuclear services business and will provide valuable career development opportunities in support of operating NPPs and New Build Civil/Structural analysis and design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • 8–12 years of structural design experience in steel and concrete.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Canada (preferably Ontario)
  • Eligibility for PWGSC security clearance.
  • Strong expertise in Canadian codes and standards (NBCC, CSA) and structural engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in at least one structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE).
  • Strong teamwork, communication skills, and ability to work in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Flexibility for client site travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nuclear QA practices and familiarity with nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural analysis, seismic assessments, design, and ageing management for structural systems.
  • Prepare detailed engineering calculations and documentation for steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry structures.
  • Use structural analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD) to evaluate system performance.
  • Develop designs across all stages (conceptual, preliminary, and detailed) and produce technical specifications.
  • Lead and support project delivery by managing timelines, budgets, mentoring junior staff, and reviewing design quality.
  • Ensure compliance with QA standards, participate in design reviews, and perform site walkdowns to support engineering modifications.
