About The Position

Duke Energy is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to join their Project Management and Construction (PMC) group. This role is responsible for building new power generation assets, including solar, energy storage, and various other generation facilities. The PMC Engineering team provides leadership and oversight of contract engineering resources throughout all project phases. This position can be filled as an Engineer II or Engineer III, depending on experience. The Engineer II is an intermediate level, solving complex problems with general supervision and developing independence. The Engineer III is an advanced level, solving complex problems with limited supervision and demonstrating greater independence. The position reports to the Manager, PMC Design Engineering.

Requirements

  • Engineer II: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A master’s degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Engineer II: 2 years minimum required engineering experience.
  • Engineer III: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A master’s degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Engineer III: Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, clothing, earplugs, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Perform work on construction sites and in office environment.
  • Ability to work at heights and from suspended work platforms.
  • This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of permitting, storm water, geotechnical, erosion control, foundations, concrete, structural steel, lifting/rigging, and building codes.
  • Geotechnical and Structural specialty.
  • Major project experience with emphasis on constructability and project execution.
  • Skilled in principles of engineering in the utility industry.
  • Experience with 3-D modelling using FEA software.
  • Utility experience.
  • Professional Engineering certification, as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of major project scope and EPC bid package.
  • Support cost estimate, schedule, risk analysis, bid evaluation and contract development.
  • Provide engineering oversight to ensure compliance with project contract and design criteria.
  • Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of complex problems.
  • Participate in design reviews, drawing reviews, construction support, resolution of technical RFIs, construction support, and project warranty support.
  • Conduct engineering related studies.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Recommend process enhancements and standards relative to area of assignment.
  • Assist in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
  • Develop positive internal and external working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Keep abreast of new developments, technologies procedures and equipment.
  • Coach and mentor.
  • Represent the company positively and professionally.
