Civil Staff Engineer 1
About The Position
T&M Associates is seeking a Staff Designer 1 to join our Community Development team in Bloomfield, NJ. This is a great opportunity for an early-career civil engineer looking to build a strong foundation in both field and design work while gaining exposure to a variety of municipal and land development projects. This role will initially have a strong field component, with responsibilities including construction inspection, site observations, field documentation, and coordination with contractors and municipal representatives. As part of the Community Development team, you will also gain hands-on experience supporting civil engineering design and project delivery. Additional responsibilities will include preparing reports, assisting with civil design for capital improvement and private development projects, and supporting senior engineers with planning and zoning board reviews, municipal design projects, contract documents, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline is required.
- Ability to prepare and modify engineering plans, profiles, cross sections, details, alignments, surfaces, utilities, and quantity calculations.
- Familiarity with plan production, drafting standards, and construction document preparation.
- Strong attention to detail with an understanding of engineering design principles and the ability to prepare accurate design calculations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively under the direction of project managers and senior technical staff.
- Willingness to perform field assignments and travel to project sites as needed.
- Documents indicating they are eligible to work in the United States.
Nice To Haves
- 2–3 years of related civil engineering experience is preferred; relevant internship experience may be considered.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred, with an interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and its application to civil engineering design is strongly preferred.
