This role is for a Civil / Land Development Group Manager in North Carolina, focused on advancing the goal of building connected, sustainable communities through thoughtful land development, community infrastructure, and recreation improvements across the Carolinas and the Southeast. The team delivers high-impact work in municipal infrastructure, educational campus development, and commercial site design, shaping communities through civil site design for projects ranging from greenways and parks to K-12 campuses, university facilities, mixed-use developments, and healthcare projects. The role involves working closely with a collaborative group supporting planning, layout, SD/DD/CD design, permitting, bidding, and construction administration for public and private clients. The Group Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for the North Carolina practice, guiding multidisciplinary teams, strengthening client relationships, and supporting business development. Collaboration with internal partners in landscape architecture, planning, transportation, structures, and leveraging the expertise of over 1200 Benesch professionals is expected. This role is ideal for a senior leader who thrives in collaborative, growth-oriented environments and desires to influence both project delivery and long-term strategy. Reporting directly to the Division Manager, there is a clear path for leadership advancement within an employee-owned firm. This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Charlotte office, requiring in-office collaboration at least three days per week.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer licensure in North Carolina (or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 3 months)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • 15+ years of progressive civil engineering experience
  • Significant experience leading civil site and land development projects for public and/or private sector clients
  • Demonstrated success developing client relationships and winning new work
  • Strong understanding of North Carolina regulatory agencies and permitting processes
  • Expertise in project financial management, budgeting, QA/QC, and resource planning
  • Experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams
