About The Position

As a Civil Project Engineer - SUE, you will be an integral part of project teams, focusing on the development and completion of Sub-Surface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects. This role involves direct collaboration with both office and field staff to ensure projects adhere to budget and schedule constraints. The position requires a degree in Civil Engineering, at least 3 years of professional experience, and registration as a Professional Engineer in Texas. Your daily activities will include creating action plans for SUE project development and completion, interacting with field and office staff, and potentially researching as-built record drawings for project designs. You will be expected to manage multiple tasks across various projects, collaborate with Project Managers to resolve issues, and coordinate with other SUE departments. Participation in site visits, agency meetings, and municipal meetings will also be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • 3-5 years’ professional engineering experience required.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Texas or the ability to acquire registration quickly through reciprocity.
  • TxDOT Pre-Certification in 18.2.1 Subsurface Utility Engineering or the ability to acquire precertification quickly is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • The ability to balance multiple work assignments on multiple projects at the same time.
  • The ability to work alone but also effectively as part of a team.
  • Process-oriented thinking with strong organizational and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to take and understand directives.
  • The ability to complete work consistently, with moderate flexibility to accommodate varying demands from Project Managers.
  • Candidates are required to have a valid driver's license.
  • Pass a 3-year prior to employment DMV background check and criminal record as determined by McKim & Creed.
  • Candidates are required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Research experience with as-built record drawings from utilities as required for use in project designs preferred.
  • Experience with Subsurface Engineering and TxDOT-related projects Preferred.
  • Familiar with design software such as AutoCAD Civil3D and Microstation ORD.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the project team to create an action plan for the development and project completion of assigned Sub-Surface Utility Engineering projects, ensuring projects remain within a specified budget and schedule.
  • Interact and work directly with field and office staff.
  • Balance multiple tasks on multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Coordinate with other SUE departments when necessary.
  • Participate in site visits, agency meetings, and municipal meetings as needed.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Move around the office including movement between floors and workstations.
  • Use repeated motions (e. g., typing, reaching, bending, lifting, and carrying).
