About The Position

MacKay is seeking a motivated, action-oriented, and relationship-driven Project Civil Engineer with a focus on stormwater to join their Infrastructure & Development team in Phoenix, Arizona. This role will also support projects in New Mexico. The expanding project portfolio includes drainage, stormwater management, and stream restoration, with a focus on improving communities. The company is backed by a 700-person organization with expanded technical depth and opportunities across the Pacific Northwest, Southwest, and Midwest. The engineer will be required to travel approximately 25% of the time. Relocation assistance is available for highly qualified candidates. Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in municipal stormwater design
  • Arizona P.E. license required or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe; P.E. in other Southwestern states a plus
  • 5-10 years of experience in municipal stormwater design, construction, and operations
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining good client relationships
  • Experience with proposal development, cost estimating, and determining specifications.
  • Evaluate hydrologic conditions, hydraulics, erosion, and sediment transport, both in the field and by modeling, as well as design hydraulic infrastructure
  • Sound understanding of conveyance design principles, including planning, design, and construction, such as open channel hydraulics, storm sewer design, bridge sizing, flow diversion, and dam outlet works.
  • Water distribution and transmission main design with rigid and non-rigid pipe materials, including welded steel pipe, ductile iron pipe, PVC, HDPE, and concrete pressure pipe and cylinder pipe
  • Experienced with the use of hydrologic and hydraulic network modeling and design software, which may include HEC-HMS, AutoCAD Civil3D, StormCAD, HEC-RAS, in accordance with expertise

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, field work, coordination of tasks and personnel, mentoring junior staff, project management and client management
  • Plan and execute tasks and small projects
  • Lead the design on large and complex projects
  • Identifies potential follow-on work and pursues those concepts with Project/Senior staff members and, as appropriate, clients
  • Adheres to budget and schedule on tasks, anticipates problems in schedule and budget in advance, and pursues solutions to completion.
  • Gives clear instructions and provides accurate and timely feedback to junior staff
  • Organizes and prepares project reports and effectively works with support staff
  • Provides concise, clear written documentation of activities in the form of field logs and notes, technical memoranda, and sections of technical reports, as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management
