This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineering professional to lead land development projects, manage engineering teams, oversee project delivery, and work directly with clients and regulatory agencies in the San Diego area. This is an office-based design and project management position focused on delivering high-quality civil engineering and land development solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership, project management, or supervisory capacity.
  • Strong professional experience specifically in land development and site design.
  • Experience working for a private civil engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, scopes, contracts, and technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and land development processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is strictly required.
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing construction documents.
  • Experience with grading, drainage, utilities, and public improvement plans.
  • Knowledge of regulatory permitting and project approval processes.
  • Experience with construction administration and project coordination.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an office-based, collaborative engineering environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must have a current Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Must be willing and able to work on-site in San Diego, California.
  • Must have professional experience in private civil engineering or engineering consulting, specifically in land development and site design.
  • Must have strong hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Must have experience managing office-based civil engineering design teams.
  • Must be able to commute to the San Diego office on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects, deadlines, budgets, and competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage civil engineering and land development projects from conceptual planning through construction.
  • Perform and oversee conceptual, preliminary, and detailed civil engineering design.
  • Evaluate land use, zoning, infrastructure requirements, site constraints, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Review and develop grading plans, utility plans, construction documents, and public improvement plans.
  • Provide technical direction and engineering guidance to project teams.
  • Conduct technical and constructability reviews to ensure project quality and compliance.
  • Develop practical and cost-effective engineering solutions for complex site and infrastructure challenges.
  • Ensure project designs and deliverables comply with applicable California engineering standards, codes, and permitting requirements.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, contracts, and deliverables.
  • Monitor project progress, financial performance, schedules, resources, and overall project execution.
  • Manage project scope and identify potential schedule, budget, or technical risks.
  • Coordinate project activities and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Prepare fee proposals, scopes of work, contracts, and project documentation.
  • Ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, on schedule, and within established budgets.
  • Manage multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining quality standards.
  • Lead and supervise teams of civil engineers, designers, and technical staff.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, coaching, and support to project team members.
  • Assign and coordinate project responsibilities based on project requirements and team capabilities.
  • Review engineering work and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative, professional, and technically driven team environment.
  • Support the professional development and growth of engineering and design staff.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for assigned projects and provide effective project communication.
  • Participate in client meetings, project discussions, presentations, and coordination activities.
  • Coordinate with local jurisdictions and regulatory agencies regarding project approvals and permitting.
  • Communicate project status, technical recommendations, potential issues, and project requirements effectively.
  • Support business development activities through successful project execution and strong client service.
  • Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, technical documentation, and construction documents.
  • Review project deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Ensure projects meet applicable California civil engineering standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support construction administration and project coordination activities.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, budgets, schedules, and correspondence throughout the project lifecycle.
