About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Civil Project Designer in Ann Arbor, MI, to lead civil design efforts on low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high complexity work. This role works closely with engineers and consultants to deliver engineering solutions, field inspections, reports, permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs that support positive client outcomes. You will contribute to project planning, budgeting, scheduling, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination while supporting industrial and manufacturing work. The team also brings experience in technical industrial environments and production-support infrastructure, with recurring work tied to automotive R&D, chemical process, and manufacturing support, while delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry OR 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
  • Knowledge of industry standard engineering software, primarily Civil 3D
  • Proficient with pipe networking and road corridors.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in the civil engineering field
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Able to lead teams with others that utilize industry standard software that assists with civil engineering analysis and design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred
  • Associates degree, or certificate, in utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent software tools or engineering preferred

Responsibilities

  • Direct and train Civil Design Technicians to support reports, exhibits, plans, specifications, and permit applications required by the project’s contractual scope.
  • Lead design efforts for low to moderate complexity civil site design projects across commercial, residential, and industrial work.
  • Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Complete and oversee permit applications in coordination with the team, client, and reviewing jurisdiction.
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration.
  • Work with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build professional relationships.
  • Support consulting-project execution as part of a project team.
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks; document client design decisions and instructions; and monitor design progress, percent complete, and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems, propose innovative solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance, interpret state and local design criteria, and apply them to specific project needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
